ACPA Seminar Series: A Conversation with the President

George Collins is currently based in St. Albert, where he has provided consulting services within the oil and gas, petroleum, petrochemical, industrial and environmental fields for several years. He spent 15 years working for Suncor Energy in Fort McMurray as a senior manager leading laboratory, technical and business management teams, along with developing, implementing and optimizing various organizational quality management systems. George started his professional career spending four years in North Vancouver quickly progressing through several supervisory and quality management roles supporting international commercial industrial geochemical laboratory operations. He graduated in 1997 from the University of Victoria with a degree in chemistry, after completing his honours thesis jointly under the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  

George is active in several professional technical organizations where he brings his broad experience and knowledge together to further the importance and understanding of chemistry and its application across multi-disciplinary fields.   George has played an active role mentoring employees and peers, often as “The Chemist” within engineering and business organizations and teams.  He has supported learning and youth development as a director and chief judge at regional science fairs for several years and enjoys supporting STEM activities. 

In his personal time, George enjoys organic gardening and the resulting cooking, baking, preserving, and jam making which results. Who says chemistry shouldn’t taste good as well!
