Scholarships & Awards

The ACPA is committed to fostering the next generation of chemists and honoring those who have dedicated their lives to the profession. From regional science fairs in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge to university-level research across the province, we celebrate excellence in chemistry at every stage.

For University Students

ACPA Undergraduate Scholarship ($1,000)

This scholarship supports full-time undergraduate students registered in a CSC-accredited chemistry program at an Alberta university. We look for students who balance academic excellence with a commitment to the profession through volunteering and mentorship.

  • Key Criteria: Minimum 3.0 GPA in core chemistry courses and demonstrated volunteer service.
  • Deadline: March 31

Arthur Bollo-Kamara Graduate Scholarship ($1,000)

Named in memory of a founding member who championed both science and the arts, this award is for graduate students who demonstrate a “whole-person” approach to chemistry. Applicants are evaluated on academic research, community service, and participation in arts and culture.

  • Key Criteria: Registered in an Alberta graduate chemistry program; active in community or cultural activities.
  • Deadline: March 31

Regional Science Fair Awards

We are proud to spark curiosity in junior high and high schools across Alberta. The ACPA sponsors prestigious awards at the Edmonton Regional Science Fair, the Calgary Youth Science Fair, and the Lethbridge Regional Science Fair.

  • ACPA Alberta Chemist Award: Recognizing outstanding projects across all grade levels that demonstrate a deep understanding of chemical principles.
  • ACPA Rick Dillen Memorial Award: Sponsored by the CCQTA, this award specifically encourages young innovators in Grades 7 and 8.

The Frank W. Bachelor Award for Service

This is the ACPA’s highest honor, awarded to a Professional Chemist (P.Chem.) who has made outstanding volunteer contributions to the profession in Alberta. Named after our founding president, this award recognizes a lifetime of integrity and leadership.

  • The Honour: A commemorative plaque and lifetime professional membership in the ACPA.
