Landfill and Lagoon Leachate Liabilities: Chemistries and Practical Solutions

April 8, 2016
Lakeland College, Lloydminster, Alberta
Lecture Theatre 2038 (see map)

The Preliminary Program for this workshop is now available here.

The Associations of the Chemical Profession in Alberta and Saskatchewan are pleased to offer a one-day workshop on chemical leachate issues that affect landfills and lagoons. Special consideration will be given to the plight of small rural communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan that may face leachate regulations and potentially costly programs to monitor, manage, and remediate their facilities.

This workshop will bring together the expertise of professional chemists from both provinces to address the challenges facing regulators and leachate liability holders. It will help stakeholders and decision makers understand the basic chemistry of leachate components, outline the problems that leachates can cause, and provide strategies for dealing with leachate liabilities.

Workshop topics will include waste characteristics and leachate chemistry presented in easy to understand terms. Learn about management and remediation of the leachate liabilities from your lagoon or landfill. A panel discussion on landfill regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan will allow you to ask questions of informed government panel members.

Who should attend?

Landfill managers and operators who need to manage leachate and meet regulatory requirements.
Chemists who want to broaden their expertise in waste management and contaminated sites.
Other professionals who work in the environment and waste management industries.
