The ACPA
Undergraduate Scholarship in Chemistry, in the amount of $1000, is awarded
annually to a deserving student who is registered in a full time
undergraduate chemistry program at a university in the province of Alberta.
The scholarship award criteria are described below:
1. Academic Excellence (50 points)
The recipient must have achieved an
average GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale (or equivalent) based on the
eight best one-semester undergraduate level chemistry courses within the current
course of studies. An original transcript must be submitted with the application
for the scholarship.
2. Service to the Chemical Profession (50 points)
The recipient must have contributed
to the chemical profession by volunteering in a chemistry-related activity.
Eligible volunteer activities include National Chemistry Week, science fairs,
chemistry mentoring, and boards or committees of chemistry organizations such as
the ACPA or the CIC. Points will also be awarded for student memberships in ACPA,
CIC or undergraduate chemistry student associations.
The applicant
must submit a letter, 100 to 200 words in length, that describes the applicant's
activities related to
service to the chemical profession and memberships in chemistry
organizations. Diversity of participation and service will be considered in the
selection process, and leadership will be rated more highly than simple
participation.
Copies of
certificates, diplomas, awards, reference letters or other documents that
substantiate the activities described in the letter should be provided (if
available). Names and telephone numbers of people who can verify the applicant's
activities should be listed following the letter.
All information,
including the required transcripts, letter and supporting documentation must be
received by the ACPA at the following address no later than March 31.
